Dietary Restrictions in Spain (Part 2) – Olivia Morris (SIS Staff)

The following recommendations are based on a gluten and dairy free diet. Click here to read Part 1.

Restaurantes (Traditional Spanish cuisine):

Victoria 8 (C. Victoria, 8, 41010 Sevilla, Spain)

  • $: A bit pricey for Spain, but standard for US
  • Location: Triana
  • Recommended options: larger plates – arroces (paella, arroz negro), alioli, pan y picos, pescado frito
    • The owner is celiac, so everything can be prepared for celiacs upon request.
    • They actually do not offer an allergen menu since the restaurant can prepare each dish freshly according to your needs. Make sure to tell them your restrictions and enjoy the fact that you don’t have to scan the menu for the symbols and can order whatever you desire!
  • *Call to make a reservation: +34 661 67 70 61

Cervecería Giralda Bar (C. Mateos Gago, 1, 41004 Sevilla, Spain)

  • $: Standard price & great views
  • Location: Next to La Giralda (central)
  • Recommended options: tapas – las setas, arroz negro, aguacate con anguilas, ensaladilla rusa

Patio San Eloy

  • $: Cheap
  • Location: It’s a local restaurant with several locations around Sevilla
  • Recommended options: tapas – tortilla de patatas, arroz negro, jamón con patatas fritas

Heladerías:

Giolatto/Gioelia (C. Reyes Católicos, 19, 41001 Sevilla, Spain)

  • $: Standard
  • Location: Near the Triana Bridge (C. Reyes Católicos)
  • Recommended flavors: pistacho, avellena, chocolate

María Limones

  • $: Standard

Pastelerías:

Confitería Rufino (Génova, 2, 41010 Sevilla, Spain)

  • $: Cheap (1,60 euro per item as of March 2023)
  • Location: Plaza de Cuba (Los Remedios)
  • Recommended options: yemas (anything with their egg yolk is typically dairy and gluten free—mazapán, mostachón de coco, tocinillo del cielo etc.; just ask because I don’t remember all of the names of what they offer.)

Ofelia Bakery (C. Huelva, 5, 41004 Sevilla, Spain)

  • $: A little pricier for Spain, but standard for US
  • Location: 2 minutes walking from TCCSevilla; it is a coffee shop as well
  • Recommended options: chai latte (with your preferred milk), whatever bakery item available that fits your diet.

Otras recomendaciones:

Doña Acetiuna

  • $: Cheap (tell them how much you want to spend whether it be 1 euro or a couple euros and they’ll give you what you ask for)
  • Location: It’s a local shop with several locations (Los Remedios y Triana)
  • Recommended options: aceitunas – they’re an olive shop so try all of their olives! (Minus the ones with cheese if you’re dairy free.)

Mercadona

  • $: Cheap
  • Location: It’s a Spanish grocery store with several locations in Sevilla
  • Recommended options: They have many allergy friendly options that are reasonably priced and they clearly mark their items sin gluten and sin lactosa. Remember to keep an eye out for sin lactosa (since it may be lactose-free but not dairy-free, although most Mercadona items that are marked are dairy-free. Warning: don’t get the pizza though if you are allergic to dairy.)
